The Newport Police Department provides 24-hour staffed police service and is dispatched by Penobscot Regional Communications Center Center with 911 access and a computerized record system since 1994. The Department handles approximately 6,000 complaints annually. We encourage input from our citizens as we constantly strive to make our department better. Requirements include but are not limited to; Maine Criminal Justice Academy phase one and phase two completion, alert test, physical fitness assessment, background investigation, oral interview, physiological test, polygraph examination, motor vehicle license status verification, medical examination and be of sound moral character.
