Job Description

Duties:

  • Engaged in patrol and traffic control duties in preventing, detecting and investigating crimes
  • in apprehending suspects and criminals
  • presenting evidence and testimony in court, receiving complaints and requests for service
  • preparing records and reports performing routine clerical work
  • Tact and firmness are required in frequent public contact
  • Independent judgment and initiative must be exercised
  • Work is performed following established policies and procedures, supplemented by specific assignments and instructions.
  • Subject to the usual hazards of police work.

Officers must live within thirty (30) minutes of travel time from the department. Residency requirements must be attained within (6) months from the date of employment. Officers within this job classification may be required to work (8), (10), or (12) hour permanent or rotating shifts depending on the specific needs of the department.

  • $40,368.30 annual salary while in BLET (police trainee)
  • $45,619.00 upon successful completion of BLET (certified police officer as of January 1, 2025)

  • $3000 sign-on bonus for lateral transfers paid in two installments ($1500 at year one and year two)

The Asheboro Police Department consists of 86 sworn officers and 9 civilian employees working together in three separate fields of operation to maintain an environment in which our citizens, workers, and visitors feel safe. The Asheboro Police Department is comprised of four entities: Administration, Field Operations, Investigations, and Support Operations.

Experience

Reach 21 years of age before the completion of their probationary period. Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
