Information about the Department:
The East Providence Police Department is comprised of five major organizational components including the Office of the Chief of Police, the Patrol Division, the Detective Division, the Services Division, and the Operations Division. Numerous specialized units such as the Traffic Unit, Juvenile Unit, Prosecution Unit, Vice Unit, Training Unit, Community Policing Unit, and the Office of Professional Standards and School Resource Officers work within these divisions to provide a wide array of law enforcement services. The Department is currently authorized to maintain 99 sworn officers and 23 civilian personnel. The chief of police is responsible for the overall operation of the police department. The chief of police works with the administrative staff to set goals and objectives and ensures their realization by planning, organizing, and directing personnel and resources to that end. The chief reports directly to the mayor.
