The starting wages starting on 01/01/25 are $22.74 to $30.18 an hour depending on experience with credit of up to 15 years' experience in the field plus stipends for education and night shift differential.

The Public Safety Division is responsible for providing police services for communities that have no organized police department in the County. Under MRSA Title 30-A Section 452, the Sheriff in each county, in person or by the sheriff’s deputies, to the extent the Sheriff undertakes to patrol, shall patrol those areas in the county that have no local law enforcement. Androscoggin County has eight communities that have no organized police departments which are the Towns of Poland, Minot, Durham, Wales, Greene, Leeds, Turner, and Livermore.
Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and possess a Maine driver's license with no major convictions. Applicants will also need to successfully pass a background investigation to include: 1. No convictions or conduct for Murder, Class A, Class B, Class C, or Class D crime; or convictions for any violation of the Maine Criminal Code, chapters 15 (theft), 19 (falsification in official matters), 25 (bribery or corrupt matters) or 45 (drugs), or a conviction for any equivalent crime in another jurisdiction outside the State of Maine. 2. Shall be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation; 3. Shall complete a state and federal criminal records check through the submission of fingerprints to the State Bureau of Identification and the Federal Bureau of Investigation; 4. Where a greater portion of the new curriculum is now "hands-on" the candidate must be deemed medically suitable to participate in the corrections training program by having medical personnel sign the MCJA Medical Form.
