Duties Include:
Enforcing the laws and ordinances of the State of Maryland and Wicomico County. Responding to the scene of a crime or an accident. Interviewing suspects, witnesses, writing reports, monitoring any suspicious activity of ongoing crimes. Coordinating vehicular traffic. Responding to citizens’ and visitors’ questions.
Deputy Sheriff applicant must reach his/her 21st birthday by the completion of the Criminal Justice Academy. Must successfully complete written examination, physical agility test, polygraph, background investigation, medical and mental health examinations. EDUCATION: All applicants must show proof of graduation from an accredited high school, or G.E.D., as approved/recognized by the Maryland Department of Education. College level courses in law enforcement, i.e., Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Business, Municipal Administration, Political Science, Public Administration and City Planning and Counseling are preferred, but not mandatory for Police Officer candidates.
