  •  
  • Community Affairs Division
    • ​Screening inquiries and complaints from the public
    • Assist maintaining equipment and ordering supplies
    • Assist set up/breakdown at community events
    • Maintain, inventory, and sanitize equipment
    • Assist with promotions, ceremonies, funeral ceremonies and memorial events
  • District Community Policing Teams
    • Schedule speaker requests and community events
    • Attending, planning and coordinating community events
    • Analyze and research crime trends/statistics, community questions/complaints
    • Organizing logs/reports/calendars
  • Information Technology Division
    • Work with technicians answering trouble calls in the field and basic setups in the office
    • Familiarize with the MDC computer hardware and software programs used by Officers and the HPD
  • Major Events Division
    • Screening inquiries and complaints from the public
    • Direct calls from different government agencies and the public to the appropriate detail
    • Support to federal, state and/or city entities with any large scale event, natural disasters, or any events coordinated with the MED
    • Assist with the acquisition, retrieval, distribution, maintenance and record keeping of personnel protective equipment and general equipment. 
  • Training Division
    • Make notifications, documentation and submission of necessary forms
    • Assist the Training Division staff with scheuduling tasks
    • Assist with the maintenance, issuance, and storage of POST equipment and assist in the scenarios
    • Maintain the EVOC courses and assist in the EVOC training
    • Play acting roles in Field Exercises. 
 

Company Information

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) was established in 1932 and is located on the island of Oahu at 801 South Beretania Street. The department’s jurisdiction encompasses the entire island of Oahu, which has a circumference of about 137 miles and an area of approximately 596 square miles. Oahu has a population of about 1,000,000 including military personnel, but excluding visitors. In 2018, there were 5,862,358 visitors to the island of Oahu.

The HPD is comprised of 29 divisions. As of March 2020, the department has 1,820 sworn officers and 464 civilian personnel.

Experience

20 years of age at the time of application 21 years of age by graduation from the Police Academy There is no upper age limit DRIVERS LICENSE A valid government issued Driver's License is required at the time of application. Permits are not acceptable. FIREARMS Must be able to meet Federal and State eligibility requirements to possess firearms (i.e. no felony convictions; no misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence, other violent crimes, or illegal drug sales). In addition, meet requirements set forth in Hawaii Revised Status (HRS) Section 134-3.5. MEDICAL - VISION Visual acuity must be 20/20 binocular with or without correction. Successful long-term soft daily wear contact lens wearers correctable to 20/20 must have worn their contact lenses 6 months or more. Loss of color vision is unacceptable (please contact us for partial-loss of color vision) Significant decrement in visual field performance (peripheral vision) in either eye is unacceptable.​ * This is not all-inclusive and is intended only as a general guideline. CITIZENSHIP In order to meet Federal and State requirements to possess a firearm, you must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Legal Permanent Resident. SELECTION STANDARDS In addition to the minimum qualifications listed on this page, there are "selection standards" which relate to your background investigation. We highly recommend reviewing the selection standards to determine your likelihood in successfully passing your background investigation. SELECTION STANDARDS MEDICAL - HEARING Pure tone thresholds in the unaided worst ear not worse than 25 dB at 500Hz, or 2000Hz, and not worse than 35 dB loss at 3000Hz ​or no greater than 30 dB at any time of the first three frequencies and average loss of less than 30dB for all four frequencies is acceptable. ​ * This is not all-inclusive and is intended only as a general guideline.
