The Caribou Police Department operates on a 12-hour schedule-3 on/3 off and offers competitive wages with excellent health benefits. New union contract effective January 1, 2023 includes 25-year Maine State Retirement with no minimum age at 66 2/3% or participation in ICMA (both include participation in Social Security), increased pay rates, lateral transfers (for pay based on years of experience) and increased sick time accrual. Overtime opportunities consist of regular overtime and special details, including ATV patrols; Homeland Security patrols; Bureau of Highway Safety-enforcement details; underage drinking enforcement; and others.

Applicant must have a high school diploma, 200-hour police course certificate (or be in the process of obtaining the Law Enforcement Pre-Service certificate) and will be required to pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy prescribed physical aptitude test, oral examinations, physical and psychological examination and criminal background check, including a polygraph examination. Applicant must hold a valid Maine driver’s license and have an excellent driving record. Any of the following would be a plus: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, Academy Blue Pin or law enforcement experience.
